This is a small local to East Texas burger chain that offers hand made burgers, hand made onion rings, FREE beans when you eat in, fries, tots, gravy, patty melts – it’s just a great place for some all-American fare.

And it’s GOOD! I’m not going to tell you they are the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life, but they are definitely better than any chain, and better than half of the mom and pop burger stands I’ve tried. You won’t be sorry!

[CLOSED] Dud’s on the Range

Gilmer’s only sports bar and grill has moved into town! An extension of Duds on the lake, Dud’s on the Range has a nice menu that includes breakfast, standard “bar and grill” type fare but stepped up to almost a gourmet level for some offerings. Menu (from their official site is below).

90% of the people I know who’ve eaten here love it – including myself! I’ve had the lasagna and the pizza and it’s quite good. Not the best I’ve ever had but certainly better than most and probably better than you were expecting to find on the square in Gilmer!

This place has been here a long time, on the road behind McDonalds, they offer a wide variety of home cooked dishes. Check out their facebook page to see how the menu changes. It was formerly Lori’s which was extremely popular.

A new coffee shop on the main drag – with much more than coffee!

“Gilmer friends – I would highly recommend giving Huey’s Coffee a try. It’s locally owned and they are super friendly.

I didn’t know this until going by today, but they have shaved ice, flavored tea, and normal tea just to name a few. They say there’s more to come. I got the feeling that if you could come up with a drink, they could make it.

Yes – we have our very own sushi place in Gilmer Texas! And it’s actually really good! Check out the photos of actual dishes below the contact info. I highly recommend them. Looking at their menu [UPDATED] ~~their menu~~ I guess they go by Mario’s Cafe as well. Check out the menu below or at the link above, they don’t have ‘big city’ sushi selection, but what they offer is high quality and what I’ve tried was fresh and well prepared. Their facebook page.

At La Carreta, they want you to have fun! All of the dishes are authentically prepared. And you can choose your level spice (hot or EXTRA hot) Only the best ingredients are used at La Carreta. In my opinion, they have the best red salsa (for the table tortilla chips) in town.

Chayo’s Restaurant

Chayo’s has some simply amazing dishes. I recommend the Chayo’s nachos. But you can’t go wrong with pretty much anything on the menu. The only problem is finding them open. I have no idea what the problem is (no help? family trouble? lots of vacations? No idea – hope its not too bad) but it seems like 90% of the time I try to get food here they are closed.

BUT – if you can get food here… its fantastic!!
